General Texture Parameters

One of the keys to striking and beautiful fractal art is texturing. There are a large number of approaches for applying texture. One method is to use built-in texturing algorithms such as are available with the formulas of this tutorial. These parameters are visible only if the "expert" box is checked.

• Texture offset - Affects the texture pattern
• Texture Weight - Sets the intensity of the texture.
• Texture Scale - Sets the size of the texture. Larger values are needed for zooms.
• Texture Modifier - Primarily affects the detail level of the texture. Smaller values simplify the texture.
• Texture Power - Affects general appearance of the texture and how it scales over the trap. The effect can be very dependent upon the particular fractal.
• Texture Function 1 - Affects the texture pattern and scale.
• Texture Function 2 - Affects the texture pattern and scale.

All of the examples were created using the CosMartin Orbit Trap Enhanced formula. The first image (CosMartin) is the base image with no textures applied. The next is the application of texture to the 3rd layer with default settings and Texture Weight = 0.1.  Notice that the texture sizes and contours with the fractal shapes. The remaining images are a zoom into the original image. The upr for the first of the zoomed images follows the image section. The user should start with this upr and experiment with the various texture settings. The second and subsequent zoomed images apply the texture to the color layer. Notice the extra coloring emphasis.
